AGE OF DARKNESS: FINAL STAND’S CAMPAIGN COMES TO AN EPIC CONCLUSION IN EXILE’S RETURN – OUT NOW!

New update introduces new Survival Hero, Aurelia, three new missions, and more!

Melbourne, Australia – 11:00AM January 18, 2024 PST – The time to take your Final Stand is now! Exile’s Return is now live, bringing the world of Age of Darkness: Final Stand to the brink – and beyond…

Team17 and PlaySide Studios’ Age of Darkness: Final Stand is a savage real time strategy (RTS) survival hybrid, where players attempt to hold out as up to 70,000 on-screen enemies smash into their defences.

Exile’s Return is a new update featuring the campaign’s brutal final Act, which encompasses three epic missions, a unique boss fight and a climactic new cinematic. Additionally, players will be able to experience a new Survival hero, Aurelia, and a host of updates and fixes. These include pathfinding improvements, Spanish localisation, formations and more.

Additionally, PlaySide Studios and Team17 are pleased to announce Age of Darkness: Final Stand will be revealing its path to 1.0 in the coming months, including more details around the highly-anticipated co-op game mode, allowing two players to defend against the Nightmares at the same time.

Ryan McMahon, GM PC and Console at PlaySide Studios, said Exile's Return promises to deliver a truly epic finale – one that will challenge what it means to be a hero.

“Act III picks up with tensions between our heroes Edwin, Vizargo and Aurelia at breaking point. The Order must now form an uneasy alliance with The Rebellion, led by Aelis, The Queen of Nothing. The Dark Essence-imbued forces of Vizargo and the Volatists will stop at nothing in destroying all of Erodar – as the Exile seeks to take his revenge on the Order,” explained McMahon.

Read the full patch notes for Exile’s Return here, including our recent Aurelia Spotlight Trailer and a breakdown of her aggressive new abilities below:

  • Aggression Personified:

    • Unlike our other Heroes, Aurelia doesn’t have a passive skill or an ultimate, and each skill in her set is an active one. So from the beginning, her play-style reflects her personality and has the elements of aggression that are the makeup of the Volatists faction identity.

  • Flail Whip:

    • At Level 2, Aurelia unlocks her first active skill. Flail Whip gives her the ability to launch her flail forward to hit enemy units, but as she whips it back, it hits and damages each enemy still in its path. When using this skill on Spitters, Wraiths, Bursters and Crushers, they will drop one Dark Essence if hit.

  • Dark Fury:

    • Unlocked at Level 3, Aurelia consumes a single crystal of Dark Essence to enter a Dark Fury state for a set duration. While active, Aurelia and nearby allies gain extra Shred and regenerate health as if they were not in combat for the duration.

  • Midnight Bloom:

    • As devastatingly beautiful as it sounds, at Level 4 Aurelia uses Midnight Bloom to manually select a location to raise a crystal shard. Standing for a set duration of time, the crystal shard has an Area of Effect that slows enemies within it. Upon reaching the set duration or upon enemies depleting the crystal’s health via attacks, the crystal detonates, damaging enemy units within its radius.

  • Crimson Lightning:

    • Aurelia unlocks her full potential at level 6 with Crimson Lightning. This skill allows her to  command dark energy to damage enemies in an area, healing Aurelia and granting an attack speed buff in the process. Aurelia’s heal value and increased attack speed are determined by how many units she hits with Crimson Lightning

“We’ve been inspired by classic RTS campaigns and have sought to push the boundaries of storytelling and gameplay in this genre. We at PlaySide are deeply proud of the world and characters we’ve created, and we can’t wait to cast back the Veil on this epic story,” added McMahon.
