International Game Developers Association Hosts Worker Empowerment, Unionization Workshop

The International Game Developers Association (IGDA), will host a panel focused on Worker Empowerment and Unionization in Games this afternoon, Tuesday, Dec. 12 from 12 PM to 2 PM CST. Registration for the free event is available here, but viewers may also watch the panel on IGDA's YouTube and Twitch channels.


The second hour of the event will feature a union organizing workshop which requires registration here. The event will highlight opportunities for games industry workers to support and empower one another in the face of widespread layoffs, industry volatility, and more.

 

In collaboration with the Communications Workers of America (CWA) and UNI Global Union, the workshop will present different examples in which developers can organize and ensure safe, inclusive work environments for themselves and others.

Members of unions around the world will present cases of established worker empowerment initiatives globally and their contributions to developer stability in those regions.

 

The two hour panel will feature topical experts such as Screen Actors Guild - American Federation of Television and Radio(SAG-AFTRA) Interactive Negotiating Committee Chair Sarah Elmaleh, Autumn Mitchell of ZeniMax Workers United - CWA, and Pierre-Étienne Marx and Antoine B of Le Syndicat des Travailleurs et Travailleuses du Jeu Vidéo(STJV).
 

CWA Assistant Director of Organizing Erin Mahoney and IGDA Executive Director Dr. Jakin Vela will moderate the panel discussion.
 

An organized training session is slated for the second hour and will be led by the CWA for North American participants and UNI Global Union for non-North American participants.
