Critically acclaimed roguelike dungeon-builder Into the Restless Ruins has just launched its biggest update yet. The Ruin Remix Update (v1.1.0) adds new levels, gameplay upgrades, and deep strategic enhancements, just in time for the Steam Summer Sale, where players can pick up the game at 20% off.
Developed by Edinburgh-based studio Ant Workshop and published by Wales Interactive, Into the Restless Ruins blends tactical deckbuilding with dungeon construction and Celtic folklore. Since launch, it’s earned an 84% rating on Steam and an 80/100 Metacritic score, praised for its originality, replayability, and characterful design.
“This update is a direct response to what players have asked for,” said Tony Gowland, founder of Ant Workshop. “Remixed layouts for seasoned players, more late-run options for the Maiden’s Favours, and a chunk of new content that freshens up every run.”
Remix the Ruins: Six New Variants to Conquer
Veterans of the ruins can now unlock six remix versions of existing levels, each available after reaching player level 10 and completing the original layout. These Remix Ruins feature altered layouts, unique starting decks, and exclusive Charms that shift strategy from the very first card draw:
- Eorisdale+ – Corrupt Heart Charm
- Clava Cairn+ – Bat Totem Charm
- Jarlshof+ – Bad Twin Charm
- Dunvegan+ – Deadly Nightshade Charm
- Craigievar+ – Cracked Headstone Charm
- Brodgar+ – Maiden’s Fury Charm
Upgraded Characters & Card Systems
The Harvest Maiden now offers stat boosts as part of her favours after a few selections—allowing players to stay lean in deck size without losing power. Meanwhile, the Wulver’s shop now stocks five cards per night and sells them at slightly cheaper prices, making it a more strategic mid-run pit stop.
7 New Room Cards, 2 Trinkets, and More
The update introduces:
- 7 new Room Cards, including Dice Den, Shortcut, and Gunpowder Store
- 2 new Trinkets – Trick Deck and Broken Destiny
- 2 Boon Cards – Farsight and Changing Fate
- 7 New Charms – each with unique passive (and often cursed) effects
Major Balancing & Quality of Life Changes
Weapons have been made significantly more impactful, Warden bosses are tougher, and various underused rooms like Beacon Fire and Healing Ivy have been buffed. The team has also improved UI contrast and fixed issues with vibration settings on Nintendo Switch.
