Iron Guard narrative tower defense game launches on Meta Quest 2

27 October, 2022 – Iron Guard, the sci-fi tower defense game made in the spirit of classic real-time strategy games, today has launched on Meta Quest 2 for $14.99.

Iron Guard begins in 2232 A.D and the crew of “Avalon” has crash landed on the planet “Akris”, while trying to investigate why the earlier planetary-terraformer ship carrying the AI terraformer bots lost contact. Fortunately, the planet is habitable because the terraformer ship and its AI bots have done their job to make “Akris” habitable and sustainable for life. Players take on the role of 1st Officer Graves. It is up to Graves to protect the lives of the surviving crew. Defend all and secure resources from the onslaught of the out-of-control terraformer bots. Use the engineering drone, erect defensive turrets, mine various structures and collect resources. Survive at all costs to find out what caused the Terraformers to go rogue and not complete the terraformation. 

In Iron Guard players can expect to strategically build turrets to defend from the onslaught of rogue bots, upgrade defenses and use aerial drones to protect the survivors against rogue terraformer robots on an uncharted alien world, and secure and defend the resources for best survival.

“Normally, in your typical Tower Defense game the player is an outside observer. With Iron Guard, we wanted to give players the opportunity to take an active part in the defense by shooting from a handheld drone and have situational awareness of the battlefield. Additionally, we wanted to make a game that was more lively and interesting through a gripping  story and compelling characters” said Zubin Wadia, CEO and Co-founder of Xlab Digital.

 

Gameplay Highlights:

  • A room scale 360 degree immersive experience

  • Three distinct game modes which support various play styles:

    • Classic gameplay: Robots travel on roads from different points, turrets can be built, upgraded, etc. as players have to complete multiple waves to complete the levels.

    • Resource collection: Endless waves of robots with increasing strength, march towards the base. Players need to get the required resources displayed on the drone as quickly as possible whilst balancing the money with the turret's strength and also defending the base. 

    • Timed Hacking: Players must hold off an endless onslaught of enemies while the system is being hacked.

  • Dynamic gameplay through upgradeable turrets, path blockers and managing resource harvesters

  • Invest resources into permanent upgrades between missions

  • Arcade style shooting from an upgradeable drone using conventional or super weapons

  • A unique storyline revealed through cutscenes and fully voiced dialogue

  • Amazing audio and music which adds to the gameplay in the true style of classic RTS games

  • Beautiful and stylized environments with mysterious atmosphere of an unknown planet, showcasing various biomes where battles ensue
