A Fistful of Yankees, a real-time tactical game set at the dawn of the Wild West, is now available on Steam. As a Union commander, players take control of a plucky unit of Yankee soldiers and lead them to victory against new and ever more devious threats - but they need to stay on their toes, as a good situation can soon turn bad, and then downright ugly…
Tense, high-stakes gunfights are at the heart of A Fistful of Yankees. Gunfire can come at the player's men from any direction, with victory rapidly turning into defeat if they become overconfident: A desert trail or a forest clearing can soon ring with the sound of gunshots if they drop their guard and simply march their soldiers straight across. A clear head and the ability to quickly find cover are essential to victory, as anyone caught out of cover will be quickly sized up for a coffin.
The other crucial aspect is choosing the right men for the job. Players start with their captain, with the unique ability to fan their revolver and take down multiple enemies like a legendary gunslinger, players also compose their squad from four distinct classes: Soldiers with rifles making them jacks-of-all-trades, masters-of-none; hardy brutes excelling at close combat with their scatterguns and sticks of dynamite to ruin the enemy's day; frail snipers who can snip the wings off a mosquito at a terrifying range; and horsemen, the literal cavalry that can turn the tide of a battle with a well-timed charge (or a prelude to Custer's Last Stand).
With these men at their disposal, players can customize their unit to fit their playstyle. From shock and awe cavalry charges followed by a determined infantry storm, to methodical advances, slowly, but surely eliminating any opposition in their way, players can face the challenges thrown at them by the lawless New West on their own terms.
Even when outgunned and outnumbered in a siege, there's no one right to play: Players choose the fortifications they want to build, from barricades to keep their soldiers safe to artillery emplacements ready to introduce the bandidos to the concept of modern warfare. Together with the selection of troops, turtling up at the fort is as viable as a mobile defense, counter-attacking the enemy and bringing the fight to them.
Tactical challenges abound across A Fistful of Yankees, across each of its six chapters. Every chapter is a new piece of the gripping story, drawing on western classics, but putting a distinct European spin on them, a new environment with fresh enemies and twists to keep players on their toes, all wrapped in a distinct visual style and soundscape evoking the atmosphere of retro comic books.
