Introducing VELOCIBLASTER: A Meta-Backed Multiplayer VR Shooter with Flying Velociraptors and High-Tech Weapons

Developed by Space Age Interactive and featured by Meta at GDC 2025, VELOCIBLASTER is set in an alternate reality where dinosaurs never went extinct. Players battle each other as evolved velociraptors using sci-fi weaponry and rocket thrusters.

MINNEAPOLIS, MN - March 27, 2025 - EVOLUTION. TAKES. FLIGHT. 66 million years ago, the dinosaurs were wiped out by an asteroid - but what if that fateful asteroid missed Earth completely? VELOCIBLASTER is set in an alternate reality where velociraptors have continued to evolve for millions of years. Today, these dinosaurs are the sentient species on Earth and beyond, and have developed advanced technology enabling them to fly and battle using sci-fi weapons.

Game studio Space Age Interactive has unveiled its debut VR game VELOCIBLASTER, a dinosaur-themed multiplayer sci-fi shooter for Meta Quest and PCVR (Steam). With an open alpha coming soon in Q2 2025, the game immerses players in fast-paced PvP Deathmatch battles. In VELOCIBLASTER, each player is a velociraptor equipped with dual high-tech blaster cannons that can switch weapon modes and unleash a variety of exotic, projectile-based weapons. These blaster cannons also feature built-in rocket thrusters, allowing players to take flight, dogfight in midair, and outmaneuver enemies in full 360-degree vertical combat.

This heart-pounding arena shooter blends intense FPS action with strategic maneuvering inspired by classics like Unreal Tournament, Quake, and Metroid Prime. But where those games kept players grounded, VELOCIBLASTER introduces a modern twist made possible only in VR: intuitive flight locomotion powered by rocket thrusters. Weapons are collected as item pickups scattered across the map, but instead of swapping out entire guns, players wield a pair of “universal” blaster cannons capable of quickly switching between weapon modes, inspired by Metroid Prime’s iconic weapon system. The current arsenal includes weapons like the rapid-fire Pulse Blaster, the close-range, shotgun-style Ice Blaster, and the powerful ElectroBolt, with more on the way. Each hand can equip a different weapon—or the same weapon on both hands—allowing for personalized playstyles, creative combat strategies, and the absolute thrill of blasting two enemies at once.

During GDC 2025, VELOCIBLASTER was featured in a talk by Chris Pruett, Director of Games at Meta, as part of the company’s Oculus Publishing Ignition initiative—an exclusive program that funds promising early-stage VR games from emerging studios. With support from Meta, Matt Foreman, founder and lead developer at Space Age Interactive, was able to transition VELOCIBLASTER from a side project into a full-time development effort, propelling the game forward.

“I originally started VELOCIBLASTER as a part-time side project to explore the possibility of a VR game that combined a unique style of flight locomotion with projectile-based sci-fi weapons,” said Matt Foreman. “At that time, the working title was Velocity Blaster and it was super basic with greybox graphics. Even in that state, the movement and shooting mechanics were extremely fun and intuitive, so it was worth pursuing. I needed a theme for the game, and one day the idea popped into my head to give it a dinosaur theme and rename it to VELOCIBLASTER. When you mix dinosaurs with advanced technology, there are no rules! Creatively, it’s a really fun place to be. Meta really liked the concept, and I’m grateful to have been chosen for the Oculus Publishing Ignition program. This has allowed me to work on the game full-time as a solo developer, and things have really taken off! I’m super excited to let players try it out soon via the upcoming open alpha. If you're interested, definitely join the Discord — that's where we'll be giving out free access when the alpha goes live.”

VELOCIBLASTER is currently in development for Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest 3, and PCVR (Steam). An open alpha is planned for Q2 2025 accessible via the game’s Discord server, followed by an early access launch in Q4 2025.
