About the Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion

Lelouch, a boy from the Holy Britannia Empire journeys to Japan, a vassal state of the empire and there discovers a special ability, called a Geass, that allows him to control others. The anime tells his story as he begins to involve himself in the fight against the empire.
The first series, Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion aired between October 2006 and March 2007, with its second season running between April and September of 2008. Four years later a new anime, Code Geass: Akito the Exiled made its debut, with a new setting centering in Europia United.
The anime is popular enough that it returned to celebrate its 10 year anniversary in 2016, with a three part theatrical release starting in October the following year.
