Indie Game Award 2023 Winners Announced

The Indie Game Award 2023, one of the most prominent awards for indie games, unveiled award winners at the Taipei Game Show (TGS) this morning. Mr. Shuhei Yoshida, Head of Indies Initiative at Sony Interactive Entertainment, was invited to present the awards at TGS, bringing incredible honor to indie game developers. The Indie Game Award 2023 received 170 submissions from over 35 countries, which are record-high numbers that make the award more competitive than ever. Only 8 indie game developers were able to take home the prizes.

 
Martha Is Dead, a highly rated game on Steam from the Italian developer LKA, received the Grand Prix award for the Indie Game Award 2023. Asterigos: Curse of the Stars from Acme Gamestudio and Alina of the Arena from PINIX, both Taiwanese developers, won the Best Audio and Best Design awards respectively. Gerda: A Flame in Winter from Denmark’s PortaPlay was awarded Best Narrative, while Passpartout 2: The Lost Artist from Sweden’s Flamebait Games won Best Visual Art. South Korea’s Turtle Cream took home Best Innovation with the title RP7, and 2 developers from Poland beat out other entries, taking home two awards: Best Mobile Game for Afterburn’s Railbound and Best VR Game for Ovid Works S.A.’s Interkosmos 2000.

 
In addition, the Indie Game Award launched the Best in Metaverse Concept award for the first time ever with support from Asia Silicon Valley Development Agency of National Development Council, attracting over 21 startup teams from 4 countries to vie for the new award. Taiwan’s Meta Rocket Co. won the award and US$1,000 in prize money with their metaverse game: Arcade, which incorporates social and GameFi elements. All award-winning games are available at TGS for visitors to play and experience for themselves.
